7-7-2011 (FINALE)

So after a gaggle of things going wrong in my personal life, and a waning sense of duty when it came to the colour room, i've decided to end the show as of July 7th, 2011.

This is NOT an indictment against Plurlife.com or Dromey Broadcasting, it's just a matter of priorities, and i felt that doing the show wasn't doing enough for the bottom line. We all know that $$$ rules everything around us, and we all know that no one is getting paid when it comes to the biz models of internet radio stations, especially when it comes to paying the TALENT... There's simply no room for it... NOW, this wasn't the reason i decided to hang it up... I was happy to spin for one hour per week for free.... this is my passion, my favorite art, and my soul that i'd spill for you at 11pm on thursdays. BUT, the reality is that i'm underemployed... I need a jobby job... And staying up until 2am on friday morning is counterproductive to that. BUT, in my fits of poverty i came up with an idea... MY OWN STATION. It would be relatively inexpensive, as all i'd need to purchase would be some cheap advertising, the URL, and a cheap computer with a ton of space to act as a server. Gotta image it, and come up with a logo and etc, but this has merit, imo... A radio station made BY DJ's, for DJ's... hmmm...?

Last [colour] room is one of my best rooms, as i dedicated the songs in the broadcasted hour all to friends and fam members. Ok, had a tough couple of weeks, as only MAY can provide. Made some friends, and some mild enemies, and learned much. The blog and the [colour] room took a hit because of it, but i'm about to make it all up with mad extra mixes, along with the most recent ableton mix i've finished, Turrible Expurimentul. 4-14-2011 [Candy Purple & Red]

The end of an era...

My transformer decks have been serving me for over 2 years... They were how i cut my teeth, perfecting tech12 modifications. It's going to be tough to let them go, but i'm thinking the crazy SOB that paid the 900 to get them needs them more than i do, and the next set i get will probably be my last. (Help me with ideas for the dualily based theme... Black v White, Light v Dark, Marz v Venuz, Franken Berry V Count Chocula, etc...)

The guy and gal i got these sexy black 1210's from in 2008 are huge dubstep/bassline fans. That's part of the reasoning i used to rationalize playing dubstep on this show, the other part was the fact that it's been a while since i played it, and i really don't care how trendy it is atm, i enjoy the FAST (yes i said FAST) bass stabs and sometimes sloppy rhythm, and it mates with breaks like no other...

4-7-2011 [Pea Green Soup]

So with 3 computers running... (i'm helping fix a friends atm...) and a mind full of sleep, I trucked through another really good show... Some Audio issues, and the aforementioned computers caused me to hit the 'record' button a little late, but i got all of the audio after the intro up, so no harm = no foul. The fog donated it's name to this weeks show... It was hard to see running my errands that morning...

So this week, and for the next 4, i'll be bundling each colour room set with an ableton mixtape mix i've done as well... I included the tag set mix i did with meh homey, Lab'ratory this week... But for now, here's the tracklist from the Pea Green Soup Room...

3-31-2011 (Burnt Maroon)

No, that's not the lead singer for FLOCK OF SEAGULLS....

That's my son, roughly 10 minutes before 'crazy hair day" at school. Needing a hair cut, and 1/2 a tube of Bed hair (aka Elmer's hair glue) and this is the result. Makes me wanna play Vice City, as well... (you're not alone ;-)

Not a good night, a GREAT night where i felt like the only screw ups on the deck were caused by me trying to scratch out of practice... Half of this was due to me not trying to go heavy on the ableton bridge, but just DJing and having fun and concentrating on the mix and making sure they sound good together... It's also alot easier when you stick to harmonically grouping songs together, which i did ad nausea during this show... ALSO, due to some creative equipment fenagling, i ended up with a ttm57 serato mixer last week, and recorded 3 ableton live sets and they're in the works as we speak!! There'll be at least FIVE new sets to DL (Including a tag set with Lab'Ratory..)But for now, here's the stats that shape your life....

3-24-2011 [gold] 50th SHOW!!!

Huzzah!! I made it to (around...) 50 shows without getting das boot! It's a testament to my hard work, dedication, and the lack of oversight by dromey's part, and i'm happy with all 3 of those... Wanna give a hearty thanks to everyone that helps this show out... U know who you are, but if you're feeling un-appreciated, hit me up and i'll post your name on this blog!

The stunning return of professionalism also happened last night, ie, i remembered to copy my tracklisting for you and yours to gawk at. The set's are gonna get better too, as the ableton bridge is getting more and more close to becoming mastered, and i'll have some sets to DL because of that VERY SOON... but for now, here's last night's show....

HEY!!! I'm sure ALL of you had a safe and productive St Patricks Day. I know i did... To be honest... i REALLY did... I got a new doggy that i'm taking care of for a friend, and she kicks a tremendous amount of ass... She's sweet and loving and wants to sleep and wrestle all the time... Plus the unofficial start of spring here in the middle of march in upstate kicks off my son's second year of Little league ball... Lots of moments in the car, hoping for rain to clear up and imploring my kiddo to swing with reckless abandon are at my feet... And i'm excited for it...

NO tracklist again this week... I'm still trying to get back in the flow of doing this show with no interruptions or shows to deal (or fuck ups WHILE spinning due to lack of artistic focus) with the next day. But Next week is my 50th show!!! So the stunning return of professionalism occurs next week. BUT, as far as i'm concerned, you're lucky to be getting THIS set outta me... No booze was consumed for 1 week leading up to the small glass of scotch i had at the end of the show... And it shows, cause at the end of the set i committed a serato cardinal sin, where i dragged a song over a playing one, with out my "lock playing deck"

SO I LIED, and as long as dromey/plurlife lets me air, i'm going until they kick me off!!! So here's the most recent mix!!! Much better than last week, but lacking a playlist because i'm lazy. More and more coming as i get back into the routine of doing the show again....

The Final Room (As we now know it..) PT 1

SO... It's come to this... I knew giving them the foghorn all these months wasn't stupid.

I feel bad, but in a way, I feel validated. In the spirit of professionalism, I'm not going to gloat any more than I already have. But the reality is that PLRadio has been run poorly from the start. I offered my services to them (Dromey/ Plurlife/ Gafana Enterprises) a long time ago, services that included program direction, advertising, free content delivery and scheduling, brand and Station ID's and even a consistent/ complete Morning show M-F at a low price of $200 a month. My offer was never denied, nor acknowledged. I made this offer 3 weeks into the inception of my show, after being asked to move my timeslot, in favor of someone who "Had that slot promised to them first." (See: Wine induced rant, 2-4-2010 [red]) Obviously, my counter offer wasn't even referred to again, and I went on my way, doing the show every week and busting thru the EDM spectrum.

Even with some of the issues on the administrative end of this show, (the connection issues, the inquiry of me to swap slots, the current lack of communication.) I enjoyed bringing, what I and many of my listeners would concur was probably the most consistent and identifiable show on PL radio. I tried to convey the idea that if you heard the first 3 mins of every show, you knew that you were in for another 57 mins of solid EDM underground music. I also tried to make you, me, and even dromey and PL laugh, dance and have fun. I don't regret that, and in fact, I'm quite proud of it.

So in a way, the [colour] room isn't dying. It's just moving. I'm going to resurrect the show, whether it's on a HOMEMADE station (which is very much a possibility), or someone else's station OR any combo of the two. But for now, and until part II of this post announcing my new mix with crazy new technology, the [colour] room is going REALLY dark. {Header image change forthcoming as well;-( }

I Luvs american football, and i Luvs me some camo... Why not adorn this blog entry with what's prolly the best college football outfit ever invented... That's hot, and you gotta think it would be tough going up against a defense you can't see too well...

Breaking norms again, I spin some D & B. I love it, and pissed at myself for not spinning it more... Shouts to all the junglists that want to give me hell for not spinning darkstep with lightstep, or with terrorstep to clownstep... W/e... i just played what i felt was slammin at the time of me playing it... I'm a like a DJ conduit to which the universe speaks thru, what can i say?

1-20-2011 (Slate)

It's the [colour] room's 1 year berfday!!! Spank us on the booty and wish us luck, as I start embracing some new technology! My lovely GF Angie bought me an iPod touch, remembering that i mentioned something about wanting to use one as a midi controller on the road...

There was some issues with it, as I'm a windows guy, and the best program to use with this is called touch OSC and it doesn't send midi signals, only OSC signals that are native to apple. And since i was born with a blue IBM spoon in my mouth, it was foreign and confusing to me. But after a week of research and a laundry list of new swear words, i figured it all out, all the way down to custom layouts, and thus i've started a new addiction. Call me nuts, but now i want an iPad.... (BOO THIS MAN!!!) See the video in the link to check out the technical madness... ----> LINK!!!

This new technology isn't without it's hang ups... Looking around the booth for a 5 inch screen is much different than having a keyboard in your face while you play... I ended having a leash made for the iPod, and the rubber case rested on top of the record, screwing up my first mix a little, but i'm a hockey player... I trucked thru it, as usual.

This week's [clear] room is for the 2nd week in a row, an eye80 tribute, where we take a look at Li'l Kuhn's 2004 mix, "THE WAGER."

In late 2004, after mixing my 2-disc mix Phebbers 1 and 2, i bet Kuhny a cool Benjamin that he couldn't pull off an hour long trip hop mix. He sorta did it, but I ended up doing the intro for the original mix so we called it a push, and no one won. But it was must-listen-to beats that got great reviews all the way across the states...

This is my rendition of the mix, done in the EXACT order of the original, but with my own intro, and a modern take on the abilities that we DJ's technologically have now as opposed to back then, when spinning on CD's was a new phenomenom and serato was in the gestation period...

I had to verify the existence of this [colour] myself, and indeed, it does exist... this sets kind of a funny precedent in the sense that car colours are now available to heist for nomenclature...
